Happy Sunday.....Another Thanksgiving in the books, and although this one was quite different for many across the country, it still was and is important to express what you are thankful for because if you still have breath in your body, you should have at least one reason to be thankful. I digress and want to focus on what this blog entry is focused on primarily which is diversity in the workplace.
Diversity and Inclusion are two areas that are receiving an insurmountable amount of attention for more reasons than one. However, I want to focus on Diversity primarily right now. According to Queensborough Community College, diversity encompasses several components. Diversity is the process of understanding that each individual is unique and each person has their own differences. The dimensions of diversity include race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, etc. Diversity includes several set practices i.e. understand that diversity includes not only ways of being but also of knowing, building alliances with people of all backgrounds, etc. Furthermore, diversity is a subject matter where we all need a seat at the table to learn and grow.
Do you know if the company you work for has a diversity plan? Do they have trainings regarding diversity? If so, how do you feel about it? I am interested to delve deeper into people thoughts and experiences when it comes to dealing with diversity.
