POSITION: VICE PRESIDENT, UNDERWRITING & BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT

The Texas Hospital Insurance Exchange seeks a future-focused, innovative leader with
extensive underwriting and business development experience.
Basic Function:
The VP of Underwriting and Business Development is responsible for the overall management of
the Underwriting Department, including leadership and management of Underwriting staff and
operations. This position will manage the independent agency force as well as THIE’s direct
written book of business and ensure seamless collaborations with the THA family of companies.
This position is responsible for the production of premium revenue and retention of subscribers
through promotion of THIE’s products and services. The position will lead expansion efforts of
THIE while maintaining industry presence in existing markets.
The VP of Underwriting and Business Development will manage THIE’s reinsurance programs
and reporting, ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and filings, and maintain
effective internal controls. The VP of Underwriting and Business Development will report
quarterly to the Underwriting Committee and Board of Directors.
This position is authorized to represent THIE and to speak for THIE in the absence of the
President/CEO.
Qualifications:
Must have valid Drivers’ License and proof of insurance.
BS/BA in appropriate field of study and relevant work experience are required.
General Agents License required.
Professional designation of CPCU or CIC required.
Minimum 10 years property and casualty underwriting experience with minimum 8 years
underwriting medical professional liability insurance in multiple states is required.
Customer service experience with 5-7 years management experience in the insurance industry
required.
Strong knowledge of reinsurance market and contracts required.
Ability to travel by car and air and work long hours with high level of energy. Overnight travel up
to 50%.
Motions such as bending, stooping, crouching, pulling, and pushing may occasionally need to be
performed, as well as lifting items up to 20 lbs.
Candidate must possess:
Demonstrated knowledge of business practices, management, and leadership skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills and an aptitude for establishing and maintaining professional
relationships.
Strong communication skills and experience in effective public speaking, to represent THIE
clearly and confidently before large and small groups.
Excellent mentoring skills with desire to coach and develop individual staff and team strength and
depth.
Excellent computer skills using the latest version of Microsoft Office Suites.
Strong analytical skills.
Mature, respected demeanor inspiring confidence and trust to Board, subscribers, staff, and
external industry organizations.
